Occasionally, we get new parts or returns that have cosmetic blemishes that do not affect the functionality of the part. Rather than toss them in the scrap bin, we offer the parts for sale at a deeply discounted price. In many cases, the location of the blemish prevents it from even being seen once the part is installed. Like all of our products, we still guarantee it to be the correct fit and to work properly and will offer to exchange components should anything need adjustment. Please note that we do not issue refunds for scratch and dent parts.
Lightweight Crank Pulley for R52 (Cabrio) MINI
The CravenSpeed overdrive crank pulleys are slightly larger in diameter compared to stock, but still utilizes the original belt layout. Since the crank pulley diameter is bigger, it will actually drive your supercharger faster, giving you more boost. In addition to extensive weight savings afforded by 6061 aircraft aluminum construction, power gains of up to 10% or more are available depending on how your MINI is set up. CravenSpeed crank pulleys come perfectly balanced, and feature anodizing for superb wear resistance & strength. Our Cooper S R53 (2002-2006) 2% overdrive pulley weighs 1.18 lbs.
Releasing Power
The rule of thumb is that each pound of weight taken off the engine's rotating assembly is worth approximately 2.7HP. The concept is that the crank is a parasite; it does not put power to the drivetrain but still requires the energy produced by the engine to rotate. When you reduce this parasitic weight, you release power that was previously used only for spinning the supercharger and alternator. If you're not looking to be quite as aggressive, our stock size pulley for the R53 , will be slightly less weight but won't give you the extra boost out of the supercharger. The stock size pulley weighs 1.09 lbs
Is This Crank Pulley Safe?
The pulleys on the R52 (Cabrio)'s engine and most new smaller engines have an elastomer (rubber ring) incorporated into the pulley that looks similar to a harmonic damper. The elastomer in the OEM pulley serves as an isolator, which is there to suppress natural vibration and noise from the engine itself, the A/C compressor, P/S pump, and alternator. The purpose of a traditional harmonic damper is to protect against crank failure from torsional movement. This is not necessary in the MINI or most modern engines because of the many advances in engine design and materials. Factors such as stroke, displacement, inline, V configurations, power output, etc., determine when and how these harmonics and torsional movements occur.
